Man in Koja Mobbed While Teaching Children Quran Recitation

An assault case has occurred in Koja, North Jakarta, which is currently being investigated by the North Jakarta Metropolitan Police.

“The case is being handled by the Police Resort,” said the Chief of Koja Sector Police, Commissioner Andry Suhante, on Friday (11/9/2026).

The mobbing incident took place on Jalan Lagoa Terusan, Gang D 1, Koja District, North Jakarta, on Monday (7/9) at approximately 19:14 WIB. The moment of the assault was captured by CCTV cameras installed in the neighbourhood.

In the video, several men can be seen approaching the victim’s house. At the time, the victim was teaching children in the neighbourhood how to recite the Quran.

As the commotion unfolded, local residents arrived to attempt to intervene. The victim’s report is currently being processed by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the North Jakarta Metropolitan Police.

“The report concerns the criminal act of mobbing. The cause or motive is still under investigation. It is currently being handled by the Jatanras Unit of the North Jakarta Metropolitan Police,” said the Head of Public Relations for the North Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Inspector Maryati Jonggi.

Rumours have circulated that the assault was triggered by a dispute regarding the election of the local neighbourhood association (RW) head. The police are continuing their investigation by examining witnesses and gathering evidence.

“Based on the police report, two people have been reported. We are awaiting the results of the investigation (regarding the trigger for the mobbing),” she added.
