Man in Jember Dies While Watching Sound Horeg Carnival

A man identified by the initials AW, a resident of Sukorejo village in Bangsalsari district, Jember, died while watching a sound horeg event in Paleran village, Umbulsari district. He is suspected to have died of a heart attack.

DetikJatim reported on Tuesday (13 October 2026) that the incident had gone viral on social media. Information circulating online suggested AW suffered a heart attack while watching the carnival.

AW’s daughter, Ceca, said her father had not felt unwell before leaving to watch the carnival on Saturday night (10 October).

“When he was about to leave to watch the carnival, my father was not feeling ill at all,” she said.

Ceca thought her father may have been exhausted while watching the carnival, as AW had only just returned from work before attending the event.

“He may simply have been tired after work. We are not blaming the sound horeg event,” she said.
