A total of 17 homes and warehouses in Lido village, Belo sub-district, Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), were destroyed in a fire. The fire is believed to have been caused by a man, identified only by his initials H (38), who allegedly set his brother on fire inside their home.

“The incident occurred early this morning, around 3:00 a.m. local time,” said the Head of the Bima Regency Fire and Rescue Service (Damkarmat), Ruslan, when contacted by detikBali on Saturday (May 16, 2026).

Ruslan said the fire was reported to the Damkarmat call center around 3:15 a.m. local time. In response to the report, they deployed two fire trucks from the Bima Regency Damkarmat and three fire trucks from the Belo, Palibebo, and Monta sub-district offices.

“Five fire trucks were deployed to the location. The fire was extinguished by officers and assisted by residents around 6:30 a.m. local time. After that, the cooling process continued,” he said.

As a result of the incident, the Bima Regency Damkarmat recorded that 15 stilt houses, one semi-permanent house, and one warehouse were destroyed. The material loss is estimated at Rp 500 million.

“There were no casualties in this incident,” he said.

Ruslan has not yet been able to confirm the cause of the fire because the case is still under investigation by the police. “The police have taken action to investigate the cause of the fire. A police cordon has also been set up at the scene of the fire,” Ruslan added.

According to data gathered by detikBali, the fire was allegedly deliberately carried out by H, who is suspected of suffering from mental health issues or severe stress. Before the fire, H had an argument and then allegedly set his brother on fire inside the house.

Although his brother managed to escape and save himself, the fire quickly spread and burned down the entire house. The flames quickly grew and spread to other residents’ homes.

During the fire, some of the victims whose homes were burned down expressed their disappointment by burning H’s motorcycle. However, residents, the village military commander (Babinsa), and the village police chief (Bhabinkamtibmas) of Lido managed to prevent it.
