Man in Belawan Stabs Fish-Drying Worker with Knife Over Grudge

A 23-year-old man identified as A slashed fish-drying worker Firman with a folding knife in the Gabion area of Belawan, Medan City, North Sumatra. The incident was reportedly due to the perpetrator’s grudge against the victim.

Belawan Port Police Station’s Reskrim Chief AKP Agus Purnomo stated the incident occurred on Sunday, 24 May. Police apprehended the suspect later that afternoon.

‘The Belawan Port Police Reskrim Unit acted swiftly to follow up on public reports of an assault and successfully apprehended suspect A, aged 23,’ Agus said in a written statement on Wednesday, 27 May.

Agus explained that the incident began when the victim was drying anchovies in the Gabion area, where the suspect approached him. The suspect then challenged him to a fight, which the victim ignored.

‘The incident began when the victim was drying anchovies in the Gabion area. The suspect, harbouring a grudge against the victim, approached him and challenged him to a fight, which the victim initially ignored,’ he added.

Furthermore, Agus stated that after the victim disregarded the initial challenge, the suspect persisted in provoking a fight, which eventually escalated into a physical altercation.

‘Unsatisfied with the victim’s response, the suspect repeatedly challenged Firman to a fight, but the victim continued to ignore him. Eventually, a physical altercation ensued, during which the suspect suddenly pulled out a knife and attacked the victim, causing stab and cut wounds,’ Agus said.
