Police have arrested a man with the initials B, 35, at his residence in Sukaraya Village, Karangbahagia District, Bekasi Regency, West Java, on suspicion of uploading a provocative call to ‘Surround the DPR’ in connection with a demonstration on 27 August to social media.

“We have detained one person suspected of spreading provocation to carry out a demonstration in Jakarta, meaning this call is leading towards anarchism,” said North Cikarang Police Chief Commissioner Noach Hendrik on Friday (28/8).

He explained that the suspect’s method was uncovered after police conducted an investigation into the individual’s posting history in several popular social media groups and accounts in Bekasi Regency, such as Infocikarang and Infotambun.

In the post, the suspect wrote: ‘We as people of Bekasi must have courage. We will be present on 27 August 2026 to surround the DPR RI. That is our house that they occupy, their salaries come from us, their clothes come from us, their cars come from us, their facilities come from us. Let us seize the rights for the people of Bekasi, not for others.’

Police suspect the individual exploited social media to spread a call that could potentially trigger riots during the demonstration in Jakarta. The suspect admitted that he created the post based on an invitation from a friend in Solo, Central Java.

“His friend invited the suspect to spread the provocation, so the suspect created and distributed it,” he explained.

Police are also continuing to investigate the suspect’s background, including his occupation. Based on preliminary information, the suspect admitted that he does not yet have a permanent job.

In addition to arresting the suspect, police also seized a mobile phone used to create and spread the hoax message and anarchist call.

“We took the mobile phone that he used to spread the news. So, spreading the hoax, the provocation. We secured it because he made it through his mobile phone,” he said.

The case has now been transferred from the North Cikarang Police to the Bekasi Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit to further investigate the main motive and the possibility of other parties being involved.

“We will still investigate further. We will later look at the laws that regulate taking action against this person. But for now, we are still in the stage of issuing warnings, with the threat of the ITE Law,” concluded Noach.
