Man hangs himself

JAKARTA (JP): A 28-year-old man committed suicide on Thrusday by hanging himself from a jackfruit tree, raising the number of suicides in the greater Jakarta area to 12 this year.

The man, Supriyono, was a resident of Tipar village, in Bogor's Cimanggis district.

Sutarno, the victim's uncle, said Supriyono was already dead when neighbors found him hanging on the tree.

Sutarno said Supriyono left a letter for his family, saying that they should not grieve over his death and asking them to arrange his burial at the family cemetery near their home.

"I wish to be buried beside my grandparents behind the district head's office," Sutarno quoted the letter as saying.

The letter, however, did not mention the motive behind the suicide, Sutarno said.

Sutarno said he had raised Supriyono from the age of one.

Supriyono, who was still single, was unemployed at the time of his death, although he had previously worked as a security guard at an office in Bekasi for two years.

Supriyono's relatives claimed the body for burial yesterday after a post mortem examination was performed at Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital. (09)
