A video of a man daring to hitchhike on a freight train has gone viral on social media. The incident was captured as the train passed through Jatinegara Station. In the footage, security officers at Jatinegara Station can be seen immediately apprehending the man, who was seen waving his hand towards the officials. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Daop 1 Jakarta has confirmed that staff acted swiftly to handle the situation.

Franoto Wibowo, Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 1 Jakarta, explained that upon receiving information from operational staff, the security team immediately inspected and detained the individual as train KA 2525 entered Jatinegara Station on Sunday (7/6/2026). “Thanks to good coordination between operational and security personnel, the individual was secured safely. Subsequently, officers provided assistance and education regarding safety within the railway environment,” said Franoto on Tuesday (9/6).

Based on initial inspections, the individual was not carrying any identification and had communication difficulties. Consequently, the handling process prioritised safety, humanity, and service. Franoto emphasised that freight trains are intended for logistics transport and not for carrying passengers. KAI consistently urges the public to use transport services according to their intended purpose and to avoid entering railway operational areas without permission for the sake of collective safety.

“We continue to undertake various prevention efforts through monitoring and routine patrols. Train journey safety and overall safety are KAI’s top priorities,” explained Franoto. KAI Daop 1 Jakarta also invites the public to play an active role in creating a safe railway environment by reporting any activities that could potentially endanger safety to officials.
