Man Goes on Rampage in Pleret, Bantul at Dawn, One Resident Slashed

Police have arrested a man who attacked a resident with a machete in Karet, Pleret, Bantul, in the early hours of Monday morning. The suspect went on a rampage after his search for a particular person yielded no results.

Kasi Humas Polres Bantul, Iptu Rita Hidayanto, stated that the incident began when the suspect, identified as NA (30), a Pleret resident, arrived at the home of a resident named M at 4.20 a.m. Western Indonesian Time. NA had entered the house carrying a machete with the intention of finding someone, but the target was not present.

Failing to find his intended target, NA then went on a rampage, drawing the attention of local residents. One resident, ATW, attempted to seize the machete from NA, but the suspect resisted and refused to release the weapon.

“When a resident tried to secure the machete, the suspect resisted and swung the blade. The swing struck the left wrist of one of the residents,” Iptu Rita explained.

The victim suffered a serious laceration from the slash and was immediately taken to Permata Husada Hospital. The suspect fled the scene following the attack, but residents managed to secure the machete and promptly filed an official report with the Pleret Police.

Upon receiving the report, police officers responded to the location and conducted an investigation. Within approximately half an hour, they successfully apprehended NA near Permata Husada Hospital at around 5.00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time.

During interrogation, NA admitted to his actions. Police also seized a 49-centimetre machete as evidence. The suspect is currently detained at the Pleret Police station and faces multiple charges, including the unlawful possession of a sharp weapon and assault, under Articles 307 and 466 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code.
