Man gets 6 months for illicit sex

JAKARTA (JP): The panel of judges at the North Jakarta
District Court sentenced, on Tuesday, businessman William
Suhanda, 38, to six-month imprisonment for fathering the child of
a married woman, Mrs. Levi Santosa, Antara reported.

The panel of judges, led by Judge Sumaryono, said in the
verdict that material evidence shows that the defendant had an
affair with Mrs. Santosa in the period between September, 1993,
and January, 1994, which caused her to become pregnant and
deliver a baby in July, last year.

According to the verdict, because both sides are already
married to other people, Mrs. Santosa demanded the defendant give
her a house and provide child support, needed to raise the child.

However, instead of fulfilling the demand, the defendant
threatened Mrs. Santosa not to force him to be responsible for
the sex scandal and not to file a lawsuit against him.

The defendant has decided to appeal. Public prosecutor Yuswa
Kusumah, who demanded an eight-month jail term, accepted the
