“However, about 15 minutes into the walk, the victim opened his raincoat and continued walking. After a few steps, the victim lowered his head, fell and fainted on the hiking trail,” he said.

The guides who accompanied the victim provided initial treatment. They tried to revive him by calling his name, but he did not respond.

“It turned out that there was a doctor hiking on the trail, and upon the doctor’s instructions, assistance was given to the victim, but the victim was still unconscious,” he said.

Upon receiving information about the accident involving a visitor at post 4 of the Sembalun hiking trail, officers coordinated with the evacuation team (EMHC). The EMHC team then immediately contacted the guides who were with the victim to assess the condition of the victim, who was experiencing breathing difficulties. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was performed by officers under the direction of the medical team from the EMHC.

The victim could not be saved and died. The body was immediately taken to the Community Health Centre to be transferred to the Selong Regional General Hospital.

“After being declared dead, the victim’s body was immediately taken down by the rescue team to the Sembalun Community Health Centre, before being referred to the Selong Regional General Hospital,” he said. (dek/isa)
