Man from TTS Scalds Wife with Hot Water over Money Dispute

A man identified as YT has been arrested by police for scalding his wife with hot water. The incident occurred in Kampung Fafi Oban, Koa Village, West Mollo Sub-district, Timor Tengah Selatan District (TTS), East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Saturday 14 March 2026 at approximately 20:00 local time.

“It was extremely cruel of him to scald his wife with hot water because she refused to give him money. We have apprehended the perpetrator,” said TTS Police Chief AKBP Hendra Dorizen.

According to Hendra, the incident began when YT’s wife, MB, was boiling water in her kitchen stove to prepare coffee for her husband. YT suddenly demanded 50,000 rupiah from MB, but as she had no money, the victim remained silent.

This triggered YT’s rage. In his fury, he kicked a pot containing hot water, causing it to spill across MB’s entire body. He also directly poured hot water onto MB’s body.

Following the incident, MB ran out of the house to seek help from neighbours and subsequently reported the matter to police. MB is currently receiving intensive care at Soe District General Hospital.

“The victim sustained serious burns covering approximately 80 per cent of her entire body,” Hendra stated.

According to Hendra, YT has been formally named as a suspect. He has been charged under Article 44 paragraph (2) of Law Number 23 of 2004 concerning the Elimination of Domestic Violence with a maximum prison sentence of 10 years imprisonment and a fine of 30 million rupiah.

“The perpetrator has been secured and will be processed in accordance with applicable law as this is a case of domestic violence,” Hendra concluded.
