Man from Rote Ndao Found Dead in a Sack on Ingguhun Beach After Week-Long Disappearance

A man named Johanis Anabokai was found dead in a gruesome state on Ingguhun Beach, Lutu Hamlet, Kuli Village, Lobalain District, Rote Ndao Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Friday, May 15, 2026. Johanis had been reported missing from his home for a week.

“The body was no longer intact. It is suspected that he died about seven days ago,” said Lobalain Police Chief Ipda Djony Elvis Pada to detikBali on Saturday, May 16, 2026.

Elvis said the incident began when Yohanis was reported missing from his home about a week ago. The incident was then reported to the Lobalain Police on Thursday, May 14, 2026.

Subsequently, a number of residents began searching. While searching along Ingguhun Beach, a local resident, Yapi Mandala, began to smell a foul odor in the area.

Yapi then reported the odor to two other residents, namely Arnol Tambaru and Arianto Tambaru, who were also searching for Yohanis. Shortly after, they saw a black sack floating on the roots of the mangrove trees.

They then approached to check the contents of the sack. It turned out that the contents of the sack were a corpse that was not immediately identifiable. The discovery was then reported to the police.

Shortly after, Elvis and a number of his personnel and members of the Rote Ndao Police arrived at the location to conduct a crime scene investigation.

Based on the results of the crime scene investigation, the identity was finally revealed after Yohanis’s biological child, Ely Yohanis Anabokai, recognized the clothes worn by his father on a daily basis.

After that, the police evacuated the body to the Ba’a Regional General Hospital for a medical examination. Based on the results of the medical examination, several organs were not found, the flesh was already decaying, and the scalp was peeling off from the skull.

“The cause of the victim’s death cannot yet be determined. We will take investigative steps. To confirm the cause of the victim’s death, an autopsy must be performed,” said Elvis.

He appealed to residents to remain calm and not be provoked by the spread of information. He also asked the public to report if they receive any other information about the incident.

“Regarding that (suspicion of murder), it is still under investigation,” Elvis concluded.
