Man from Malang Arrested After Ordering Cannabis Sweets from England via Website
The Directorate of Narcotics Crime at the Indonesian National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Dittipidnarkoba Bareskrim Polri) has uncovered a case involving the shipment of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), or cannabis, sent from abroad to Indonesia. A man from Malang, East Java, was arrested in connection with the case.
“This type and form of narcotics is the first we have discovered and uncovered in Indonesian territory,” said Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso, Director of Narcotics Crime at Bareskrim Polri, to journalists on Wednesday, 25 August 2026.
Eko further explained that his team had detained a man with the initials AJE (31), who had ordered the narcotics. The suspect was apprehended at a boarding house on Jalan Karet, Malang City, East Java, on Monday, 24 August 2026, at around 2.00 p.m. Western Indonesia Time.
The arrest began when Sub-Directorate III of Dittipidnarkoba received information from Pasar Baru Customs regarding a suspicious package sent from England to Indonesia using the services of Pos Indonesia.
“After inspection, the package contained three pouches of the AI brand, each containing ten candy sweets,” Eko explained.
The team then conducted laboratory testing and determined that the sweets contained a Class 1 narcotic substance, delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol. Subsequently, the team carried out a controlled delivery of the package and discovered that the recipient had paid the bill using a virtual account through Jenius bank.
“At around 2.00 p.m. Western Indonesia Time, the Sub-Directorate III team of Dittipidnarkoba, together with the Pasar Baru Customs team, arrested a man named AJE who had collected the package containing the candy sweets from the courier,” Eko stated.
Eko added that during interrogation, AJE confirmed that the package sent from England to Indonesia, addressed to a recipient named SH and containing narcotic-laced sweets, belonged to him and had been ordered through a website.
“The interrogation revealed that the suspect had placed four orders for packages containing narcotics: twice in March, once in May, and once in August,” Eko said.
According to the suspect’s admission, all packages suspected of containing THC-type narcotics were purchased for personal consumption.
Evidence seized during the arrest included one package containing three AI-brand wrappers, each containing ten THC-laced candy sweets, twelve pieces of LSD chocolate suspected of containing THC-type narcotics, one mobile phone, and one laptop.
