A man identified as AP, aged 22, was arrested by police for selling his father-in-law’s motorcycle for partying purposes with his friends. AP was apprehended on Jalan Piet A Tallo, Kelurahan Oesapa, Kecamatan Kelapa Lima, Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Saturday 14 March 2026 at approximately 23:00 Central Indonesia Time.

“Indeed, he was arrested in connection with the embezzlement of a motorcycle belonging to his own father-in-law,” said AKP Jumpatua Simanjorang, Head of Criminal Investigation at Kupang City Police (Polresta), to detikBali on Sunday 15 March 2026.

Jumpatua explained that AP was arrested based on police report number LP/B/85/I/2026/SPKT/Polresta Kupang Kota. When apprehended, AP was sitting and socialising with his friends.

The case originated when the father-in-law, identified as S, lent a Honda Scoopy motorcycle to his daughter, identified as PK, for use when travelling to campus. PK is AP’s wife.

Without the knowledge of S and PK, the motorcycle was instead sold to someone in Naibonat, East Kupang District, Kupang Regency on 26 January 2026. According to Jumpatua, PK only realised the motorcycle had been sold after it could not be found at their home.

Following this incident, PK immediately visited Kupang City Police to file a report. After conducting a series of investigations, AP was ultimately apprehended.

“When being secured, he attempted to resist. However, owing to the vigilance of personnel in the field, the perpetrator was successfully brought to Kupang City Police Headquarters safely,” explained Jumpatua.

Based on investigation findings, Jumpatua stated that AP is a repeat offender in similar cases. He has a record of repeatedly pawning and selling items and vehicles belonging to others.

“The money obtained from the crime is suspected to have been used to meet daily lifestyle expenses with his friends. The perpetrator took advantage of family closeness to gain control of the vehicle,” clarified Jumpatua.

Currently, the motorcycle has been secured as evidence at Kupang City Police Headquarters. AP is undergoing intensive interrogation to complete his case file for submission to the Kupang City Prosecutor’s Office.

“Our plan is to soon hold a case review session to escalate his status to investigation phase, conduct official asset seizure, formally designate him as a suspect, and coordinate with the public prosecutor’s office,” concluded Jumpatua.
