Man Found Decomposed in Rented Room After Toothache Complaint
Residents of Banjar Dinas Goris Asri, Pejarakan Village, Gerokgak Subdistrict, Buleleng Regency, were shocked by the discovery of a man’s corpse in a rental room on Monday morning (25 May 2026). The victim was found in a decomposed state with maggots present on the body.
Victim identified as MAIM (36), a resident of Gondangwetan Subdistrict, Pasuruan Regency, East Java. Buleleng Police Public Relations Officer Yohana Rosalin Diaz stated the body was first discovered by the rental house owner, Luh Sulatri, around 8:00 AM WITA.
“The rental house owner came to clean the room. The victim’s door was open and a foul smell was detected. Upon checking from outside the room, the victim was found lifeless,” said Yohana on Monday.
The discovery was reported to police, who immediately attended the scene to conduct a crime scene investigation.
Initial examinations suggest the victim died several days before being discovered. The body was in an advanced state of decomposition with maggots present on several body parts.
“Based on external examinations by Gerokgak 2 Health Centre doctors, no wounds or signs of violence were found on the victim’s body,” Yohana added.
Police also secured several items belonging to the victim, including a black Oppo smartphone, identity card, and a bag containing work tools such as screwdrivers, electric soldering irons, and charger cables.
According to witnesses, the victim had been living in the rental house for approximately three months. He previously shared the room with a woman believed to be his wife, though she reportedly returned to Java about two months ago.
The last witness saw the victim on Friday evening (22 May 2026) while shopping at a store near the rental house. The victim had also complained of toothache to a witness.
The victim’s body has been transferred to Buleleng Regional Hospital’s morgue while authorities attempt to contact family members. Police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of death.
