Man Found Dead Wrapped in Sleeping Bag in West Jakarta
Police have disclosed new details about the body of a man found wrapped in a sleeping bag at a boarding house in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta. Preliminary investigations suggest that the man may have died by suicide.
West Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit chief AKBP Edy Sudarman Korniawan said the suspicion was based on the police examination of the scene.
“Our preliminary assessment from the crime-scene examination is that it was suicide,” Edy told reporters on Sunday (11 October).
“The covering was a sleeping bag. It appeared tight because the victim’s body had already swollen,” he added.
Edy said investigators were continuing to look into the case to determine the cause of death.
“We are still investigating further,” he said.
The body was found on Thursday (8 October) in a boarding house room in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta. News of the discovery also circulated on social media, including in a post by the Instagram account @infojakbar24. The image showed the man’s body wrapped in a black sleeping bag.
Kebon Jeruk Police chief Adjunct Commissioner Darto Napitupulu confirmed that the body had been found wrapped in a sleeping bag.
“Yes, the body was in a sleeping bag,” Darto told reporters on Sunday (11 October).
Darto said the body was taken to the National Police Hospital in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, for an autopsy. The examination found no signs of violence that could have caused the man’s death.
“An autopsy has been conducted at the National Police Hospital. The results showed no violence that caused the death,” he said.
Darto said police were continuing their investigation to determine the cause of death.
