Man Found Dead in Rented Room in Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta

A man has been found dead in the area of Jalan Kemang Utara, Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta. The man was discovered lifeless inside a rented house.

“That is correct. On Tuesday, 15 September 2026, at around 14:00 Western Indonesia Time, the duty officer conducted a crime scene check following a report from a member of the public that a man had been found dead on the second floor of a rented house. The victim was a male aged 50,” said the Head of Public Relations for the South Jakarta Police Precinct, AKP Joko Adi, when contacted on Tuesday (15/9/2026).

Joko said the discovery began when a neighbour grew suspicious after smelling a foul odour coming from the victim’s rented room on Monday (14/9). Initially, the neighbour did not suspect it came from the victim’s body.

“On Monday, 14 September 2026, at around 09:00 Western Indonesia Time, another tenant of the rented house, while sweeping in front of the property, noticed an unpleasant smell around the premises,” he explained.

Joko continued that the foul smell grew even more overpowering on Tuesday (15/9), and the matter was eventually reported to the property’s owner.

“Then, on Tuesday, 15 September, at around 12:39 Western Indonesia Time, the unpleasant odour, like that of a corpse, became even more overpowering, and this was then reported to the owner of the rented house,” he said.

Police subsequently received a report about the situation. They inspected the location and found the victim already deceased.

“After tracing the source, the smell was found to come from the victim’s rented room, and once the door was opened, the victim was found to have passed away,” Joko revealed.

Joko said the victim is suspected to have died due to declining physical condition or illness. According to him, no signs of violence were found on the victim’s body.

“Previously, the victim had often complained of pain and tightness in his chest. No wounds were found on the victim’s body, and medicines were discovered near him. The preliminary suspicion is that the victim died of illness. The victim’s body was then taken to the hospital,” he said.
