A man with the initials K (49) was found dead, suspected of having hanged himself, in an empty house in Limo, Cinere, Depok, West Java. His family had been searching for him after he failed to return home.

A witness with the initials MD was asked by the victim’s mother to look for K, who had not come home. MD first searched the places where they usually gathered or spent time together.

MD then went to look for K at a house the victim was planning to buy. He found his friend lifeless in the empty house that morning at around 8.30 a.m. Western Indonesia Time.

“When the witness entered the empty house, he saw the victim already hanging with his neck tied using a yellow rope fastened to the ceiling of the front bedroom,” said Cinere Police Chief Kompol Chairul Saleh on Monday (31/8/2026).

Upon seeing this, the witness called the victim’s family and the local neighbourhood unit head. When checked, the victim was already lifeless.

MD admitted he did not know what problems K was facing, as the victim was known to have a reserved personality. However, the victim’s mother said that her son had intended to buy a house the day before he was found dead.

“The victim told witness N that he wanted to buy a house belonging to B, which he planned to purchase by first pawning his own house and using the proceeds to buy the new house,” he said.

The victim’s wife stated that she did not consent to an autopsy being performed on the body. The victim’s family accepted the incident as a tragedy.
