Man dies in third revenge attack attempt
A man blew himself up when he rammed his blue Toyota Kijang into
a silver Mitsubishi Gallant parked in front of jamu (herbal
medicine) maker Sido Muncul's office at Jl. Cipete Raya No. 81,
South Jakarta, on Tuesday at around 3 p.m.
The man, identified as 33-year-old Dicky Satyagraha, died
instantly when the car, inside which he had placed a gas tank,
exploded.
Eyewitnesses said Dicky, who had intended to set alight a fuse
he had placed in the fuel tank, did not have a chance to get out
of his car following the crash. He became trapped inside the car
(photo), which continued to burn for 15 minutes after the
explosion.
The blast only caused light damage to the office building.
"It was Dicky's third attempt to attack the office," said
chief of Cilandak Police substation Comr. Yanti Suyamtilah.
Yanti said that in the first attack Dicky intended to ram his
car into the office but instead hit a car parked outside. No
injuries were reported in the first attack.
Last month, he intended to blow up the office with two gas
tanks but security guards managed to stop and detain him before
he could enter the premises.
Yanti said the police suspected that Dicky was insane.
Dicky had told Yanti during questioning last month that he
wanted to blow up the office for revenge. However, his motive
remains unclear.
Dicky's corpse was taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo General
Hospital for an autopsy. -- JP
