Man dies in police detention

PURWAKARTA, West Java: A man detained by the police on charges
of distributing counterfeited currencies has died, possibly from
being tortured during interrogation, Antara reported Saturday.

The body of 26-year-old Gibson Siahaan was sent to the Bayu
Asih hospital on Wednesday with wounds all over his body, the
report quoted hospital sources as saying.

"We received Siahaan's body on Wednesday at 7 p.m. with wounds
on his forehead, eyes, arms and neck," a source who spoke on
condition of anonymity said.

Siahaan, from Bogor, West Java, was one of three people
arrested on charges of distributing counterfeit currencies in
Purwakarta, West Java.

The police confiscated thousands of fake bank notes of various
denominations from the suspects. (pan)
