Man Dies After Jumping from Bridge onto Cawang Toll Road in East Jakarta

A man identified only by initials I was found dead on the Cawang Toll Road in East Jakarta, suspected to have jumped from a bridge. Makasar Police Station Chief Kompol Sumardi Ardi confirmed the incident, stating that local residents discovered the body and reported it to the police. ‘Yes, there is a death suspected to be suicide. The sequence of events involved residents finding the deceased and reporting to the police station, which was followed up with information that the individual jumped from the Kodam Bridge,’ Sumardi said when contacted on Friday, 29 May 2026. He added that the man jumped after leaving his motorcycle at the roadside. ‘Items left on the bridge included a bag containing a wallet, mobile phone, and sandals hung on the motorcycle, along with the vehicle and its keys,’ Sumardi explained. He also confirmed the victim was a former employee of the Jakarta Pusat Environmental Services Department, verified through family confirmation. ‘There was a Jakarta Pusat Environmental Services Department vest. After verification, it was confirmed he had left the department,’ he said. The body has been transferred to the Police Hospital, with family members present for the handover.
