A 23-year-old man identified by the initials MF died after being struck by a train in Ciputat, South Tangerang, Banten. Police said he was reportedly hit while making content for a university assignment.

The incident occurred on Thursday (8 October 2026) at around 6.15pm local time. Police at the scene seized a mobile phone and a digital camera as evidence.

“According to witness statements, he was making content for a university assignment. While they were doing so, the victim was struck by a train passing where he and the witness were, then dragged for about 200 metres,” Ciputat Timur Police Chief Commissioner Bambang Askar Sodiq said in a statement received on Thursday (8 October).

The victim was found dead, lying on the tracks. He was subsequently evacuated by officials.

“At around 7pm, officers from Ciputat Timur Police arrived at the scene and examined it. They then contacted the identification unit of South Tangerang Police,” he said.

KRL services briefly disrupted

Electric commuter train services on the Rangkasbitung–Tanah Abang route, also known as the Green Line, were delayed on Thursday evening. The disruption followed an incident in which a person was struck by a train near Serpong Station, South Tangerang.

Social media users initially reported the disruption, complaining of crowding at Kebayoran Station.

KAI Commuter responded to the posts, saying services were delayed because someone had been struck between Serpong and Sudimara stations.

“Good evening. We apologise for the delay to the Rangkasbitung–Tanah Abang round-trip Commuter Line service. Train 1771D (Rangkasbitung–Tanah Abang) struck a person between Serpong and Sudimara stations,” KAI Commuter’s X account posted at 7.47pm on Thursday (8 October).

Staff have dealt with the incident, and the train involved has resumed its journey.

“Commuter Line train 1771D is now able to continue its journey,” the company said.
