Man Dies After Attempting to Break Up a Brawl at a Pool Hall in West Jakarta
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A man, identified by the initials DM (28), died after allegedly being attacked by more than 15 people while attempting to break up a fight at a pool hall in the Grogol Petamburan area, West Jakarta.
The incident occurred on Saturday (9 May 2026), when the victim was playing pool with his girlfriend.
According to Mita, the victim’s sister, the commotion began when DM’s girlfriend was involved in an argument with another woman at the location.
However, the attempt to intervene ended tragically. The victim was allegedly targeted by a group of men.
“He was trying to help, trying to separate them, and suddenly he was attacked and beaten by more than 15 people,” Mita told Kompas.com via telephone on Friday (15 May 2026).
“He was beaten up, and then pushed from the second floor. He was pushed again on the second floor, and when he fell down, they continued to kick him,” she said.
As a result of the attack, the victim was lying on the ground, covered in blood.
According to Mita, her brother suffered bruises all over his body and severe bleeding in his head, which led to him falling into a coma.
“He was treated, but he was in a coma. The most fatal injury was to his head, which caused his brainstem to stop functioning,” said Mita.
After being treated for several days, the victim was pronounced dead on Thursday (14 May 2026).
“(The case) is being followed up by the Polda,” Mita explained.
She added that her brother’s body had been buried on Thursday afternoon.
