Man commits suicide in hotel
JAKARTA (JP): A 27-year-old man is believed to have committed suicide by drinking insecticide in a hotel on Jl. Proklamasi in Central Jakarta yesterday afternoon, police have said.
First Lt. T.H. Sinaga of Menteng subprecinct said the victim, identified as Ferry Indra, a resident of Kebon Kosong, Tanah Abang in Central Jakarta, was found dead by a Mega Hotel employee.
"The victim was staying in room 128 alone from Wednesday night and was supposed to check out of the hotel at around 12:30 p.m. But, he never checked out so the employee knocked on the door to remind him after phone calls to the room went unanswered," he said.
Ferry was found lying on the bed with foam oozing from his mouth and nose with an almost empty can of insecticide on the table.
Police rushed the victim to the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital in Central Jakarta for a postmortem examination, Sinaga said.
"The hotel management didn't want any commotion in the hotel so we sent and identified the body here," he said in the hospital's morgue.
The hotel management reportedly told its employees not to say anything about the incident.
"Please wait for the hotel owner, he was summoned by police to give information," Budi, one of the employees, said.
Budi said the man only brought the hotel bad luck by choosing it to commit suicide there. (04)
