Man Caught Sticking Online Gambling QR Code Stickers in South Jakarta, Police Investigate
Jakarta, VIVA – Police are conducting an identification process against a man who was caught placing online gambling QR (quick response) code stickers in Petukangan Selatan, Pesanggrahan, South Jakarta.
"Pesanggrahan Police Station is currently carrying out identification and further investigation," said Pesanggrahan Police Chief, Kompol Seala Syah Alam, in Jakarta on Sunday.
The police are conducting an inquiry into the case. "We will provide updates on developments shortly," he said.
A CCTV recording went viral on social media showing a man placing stickers containing QR codes that direct users to online gambling websites.
In the video uploaded by the Instagram account @info_ciledug, a man wearing a white t-shirt and pink cap can be seen placing stickers on various objects, including parked motorcycles and walls. After placing each sticker, the perpetrator was seen photographing the object using his mobile phone.
After completing his actions, the perpetrator approached another man who was waiting on a motorcycle without a vehicle registration plate. The pair then left the scene.
The uploader of the video stated that the QR codes on the stickers directed users to online gambling sites when scanned.
