Man caught for drug deliveries

DENPASAR, Bali: Police have arrested a former property broker and his four couriers for allegedly selling drugs with door-to- door delivery to customers, an officer said on Monday.

Police identified the suspect as Effendy alias Chiang Jin Peng, who hails from Ujungpandang, South Sulawesi.

"This is a very interesting case, a first for us here. This man had four employees, provided with motorcycles and specially trained to be delivery boys. You only had to telephone him and the drugs would be sent directly to you," chief of Bali Police detectives Col. Bambang Hendarso said.

Police also confiscated 38.7 grams of shabu-shabu (crystal methamphetamine) from Effendy.

Preliminary questioning found the suspect paid the couriers a commission of between Rp 9,000 and Rp 10,000 (US$1.40) for each one gram of drugs delivered.

Police also disclosed that they seized more than 3.4 kilograms of drugs and arrested 28 alleged drug users and dealers in the first nine months of the year.

"It seems that shabu-shabu is still the favorite drug here," Bambang said. (50/emf)
