Man breaks both legs over Rp 200

TANGERANG: A man who directed traffic for tips -- popularly known here by the term Pak Ogah -- was badly injured and rushed to hospital after he fell from a truck and was dragged for 20 meters on Tuesday afternoon.

Besides suffering severe bruising all over his body, Roni Sahroji, 24, also broke both his legs.

According to eyewitness Djuki, 23, Roni had asked for Rp 200 (about US$ 15 cents) from a driver of an oil truck who was on a congested road near Nimmana vihara (temple) at Jl. Pasar Baru, Tangerang.

"As the driver did not give him any money, Roni jumped up and tried to get into the driver's compartment, but it appeared that the driver punched Roni in the face so that he fell," Djuki said at Tangerang General Hospital emergency ward.

Djuki said that the driver accelerated away and escaped after realizing that Roni had been dragged by his vehicle.

Several people at the site helped Roni and rushed him to the hospital.--JP
