Man Blacklisted for Life After Hanging Off Side of Commuter Train in Jakarta

A man has been permanently blacklisted by KAI Commuter after a video of him hanging onto the side of a moving train went viral on social media. The incident occurred on Thursday, 23 July 2026, on a Commuter Line service travelling from Tanjung Priok to Jakarta Kota. Footage shows the man, dressed in black and wearing a cap, clinging to the outside of the carriage and even throwing a metal hand gesture towards the camera while two security officers watched from inside the train doors. Public Relations Manager of KAI Commuter, Leza Arlan, explained that the man was spotted by security personnel as the train entered Ancol Station at around 4.48 p.m. Western Indonesian Time. He was immediately detained and taken to the security post for data collection and further investigation. The man admitted to being under the influence of alcohol and was found to have trespassed onto the tracks without permission prior to the incident, having already received a warning from officers. Following the examination, he signed a statement agreeing not to repeat the act and was subsequently blacklisted, with his details entered into the company’s CCTV analytics database. KAI Commuter emphasised that hanging onto the outside of a train or trespassing on the tracks is extremely dangerous and can disrupt operations. The company reiterated that the safety of passengers and the public remains its top priority.
