Perpetrators of sexual harassment on the Commuter Line (KRL) continue to persist. Most recently, a man was apprehended by passengers and security guards at Manggarai Station following allegations of sexual harassment.

“KAI Commuter Indonesia (KCI) frontline officers successfully secured a suspected perpetrator of sexual harassment inside Commuter Line train No. 1505B on the Nambo-Jakarta Kota route,” said Karina Amanda, VP Corporate Secretary of KAI Commuter Indonesia, on Friday (5/6/2026).

The incident occurred on Thursday (4/6) morning during the morning rush hour. KCI emphasised its commitment to maintaining the safety and comfort of passengers by taking firm action against all forms of sexual harassment within train carriages and stations.

Karina explained that the incident began at 08:22 WIB, when on-board security officers (pam walka) received a direct report from a passenger. The victim reported being harassed by another passenger who was secretly recording video of her using a mobile phone.

According to Karina, relevant officers responded swiftly to the report. On-board security personnel immediately conducted a sweep of train set 1505B.

“Subsequently, officers managed to detect and secure the suspect based on the reported description. As the train entered track 10 at Manggarai Station, the perpetrator was immediately apprehended and handed over to the security officers at Manggarai Station,” Karina explained.

A joint security team, consisting of PKD, Marines (BKO Marinir), and Police (BKO Polri) at Manggarai Station, immediately took both the perpetrator and the victim to the station’s security post for further questioning. Based on the interrogation and examination, the perpetrator eventually admitted to illegally and secretly recording video of the victim’s sensitive areas.

KCI expressed regret that, although the perpetrator was proven guilty, the victim stated she did not wish to pursue the case through criminal legal channels and instead left the disciplinary process entirely to the station authorities. Consequently, KCI has imposed a blacklist sanction against the perpetrator.

“However, as a firm measure, KAI Commuter is implementing a blacklist sanction against the perpetrator to prevent them from using the Commuter Line again,” Karina added.

KAI Commuter reaffirmed its enforcement of a zero-tolerance policy regarding sexual violence within the Commuter Line environment. Passengers who witness or experience any unpleasant incidents are urged to report immediately to officers or shout to attract public attention.

“We will not provide any space for perpetrators of sexual harassment within the Commuter Line. The rapid response of the on-board officers and the security team at Manggarai Station is a tangible commitment to ensuring this public space remains safe. We urge all passengers to remain vigilant, look out for one another, and do not hesitate to report any suspicious activities to our officers who are always on standby,” she asserted.
