Man beaten by mob in Tangsel after allegedly molesting child while intoxicated

Cisauk Police Sector officers detained a 23-year-old man identified as AFE, alias Reno, who was beaten by a mob in Kademangan Bawah Village, Kademangan Subdistrict, Setu District, South Tangerang City (Tangsel), on Sunday afternoon (24/5). Cisauk Police Chief AKP Dhady Arsya confirmed the incident on Monday in South Tangerang, stating that the daily wage labourer was apprehended by locals after allegedly stealing a mobile phone and attempting to molest a minor while under the influence of alcohol (miras). “Yes, the Cisauk Police Sector duty team with seven personnel attended the crime scene regarding a person under the influence of alcohol who was detained by locals,” said Dhady. According to him, the incident began when the suspect consumed Bali arak alcohol around 10:00 AM at a rented house near the crime scene with his brother. Around 2:00 PM, while heavily intoxicated, the suspect left the rented house to play in the rain before falling into a drainage channel and being swept away by the current. “The suspect was carried by the drainage current to the crime scene. There, he saw children playing and invited them to play hide-and-seek,” Dhady said. As he tried to flee after hearing the victim’s screams, the suspect sneaked into a resident’s house and stole a mobile phone. However, his escape was halted when he was surrounded and apprehended by an angry crowd. “When Cisauk Police officers arrived at the crime scene, the suspect was already being beaten by the mob. Officers swiftly evacuated him from the crowd to take him to the station,” Dhady explained. Due to injuries sustained from the mob attack, police first took the suspect to Keranggan Community Health Centre for medical treatment. Cisauk Police Sector has processed the crime scene and is currently interviewing witnesses and filing a police report (LP) to proceed with legal action against the suspect. Previously, a viral video on Instagram account @halobanten_ showed locals surrounding a man suspected of sexually assaulting a child in Setu District, South Tangerang, on Sunday (24/5).
