A man was assaulted while trying to break up a brawl at a food centre in the Cengkareng area of West Jakarta. Police responded and arrested the perpetrator.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening, 14 June 2026. The victim, identified by the initials H, was at a coffee shop when he heard a commotion nearby.

Acting in good faith to mediate and calm the situation, the victim approached the scene of the disturbance. However, this effort instead resulted in an assault that left the victim with facial injuries.

The victim subsequently reported the incident to the Cengkareng Police Sector. Meanwhile, the West Jakarta Metro Police also deployed personnel supported by the Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Police Mobile Brigade Corps to control the situation and prevent the brawl from spreading.

“Upon receiving the report, officers immediately went to the scene to secure the area and defuse the situation so it would not escalate into a larger public order disturbance,” said West Jakarta Metro Police Public Relations Section Head, AKP Wisnu Wirawan, in a statement on Monday (15/6/2026).

Police quickly apprehended the suspect, identified by the initials YPB. The suspect was taken to the Cengkareng Police Sector for further investigation.

In handling the case, investigators have carried out a series of police actions, including examining the victim, witnesses, and the reported individual, collecting evidence, and probing the motive behind the incident. Police also conducted a urine test on the suspect.

“The results of the urine test on suspect YPB revealed that the individual tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he said.

The West Jakarta Metro Police urged the public to immediately report any potential threats to public order through the police service hotline 110.
