Man Arrested in Denpasar After Allegedly Impersonating a Police Officer and Extorting Motorcyclist
A man with the initials DDS (25) was arrested by officers from the Denpasar Barat Police after allegedly extorting and threatening a motorcyclist. The perpetrator claimed to be a member of the police and accused the victim of being involved in a drug case.
Chief of the Denpasar Barat Police, Kompol Ni Wayan Adnyani Prabawati, stated that there are two perpetrators in this case. One perpetrator is still being pursued.
“In this case, there are allegedly two perpetrators. One has been named a suspect, and the other is still on the wanted list,” said Adnyani during a press conference at the Denpasar Barat Police Station, Thursday (February 26, 2026).
The incident occurred on Thursday (February 19) at around 5:00 PM in front of the Muhammadiyah School, on Jalan Pulau Batanta, Dauh Puri Kauh Village, Denpasar Barat.
The victim, Mohammad Soleh (46), was initially looking for an address using Google Maps. While passing through the Sunset Road area, the victim was approached by two unknown men who then took the key to his motorcycle.
The perpetrator claimed to be a police officer and said that the victim was involved in a drug case. The victim was then asked to go for a ride.
“The suspect claimed to be a police officer and threatened the victim that if he made any trouble, he would be shot,” said Adnyani.
At around 5:00 PM, the victim was stopped on Jalan Pulau Batanta. At that location, the perpetrator asked for Rp 5 million to resolve the issue.
Fearing for his safety, the victim agreed. However, the victim borrowed Rp 3 million from a friend and immediately transferred it to the perpetrator’s DANA account.
After receiving the money, the perpetrator left the victim and asked him to pay the remaining amount soon if he wanted to take his motorcycle. The victim then walked home to his boarding house.
“The perpetrator continued to pressure the victim to pay, and the victim then made an appointment with the suspect on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 10:00 PM. The victim immediately invited personnel from the Denpasar Barat Police to follow up and make an arrest at the meeting location,” explained Adnyani.
Upon arriving at the location, the police found the suspect. As he tried to escape, DDS was chased and secured. From the interrogation, he confessed to committing extortion and threats with his accomplice, Romi Eka Putra, who is now on the wanted list.
The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Denpasar Barat Police, Iptu Demiral Safriansyah, revealed that the suspect is suspected of having committed the crime more than once.
“For the perpetrator with the initials DDS, he has done it several times. So in Denbar, it was twice, and then there are three times for which we are still searching for the victims,” he said.
DDS is known to be a resident of Dangin Puri Kelod, Denpasar Timur. He is also recorded as having served a two-year prison sentence in a drug case in 2017.
During the arrest, the police confiscated a Honda Vario DK 5330 BM motorcycle and a green jacket as evidence. The victim suffered a loss of Rp 3 million.
For his actions, the suspect is charged with Article 482 of the Criminal Code with a maximum prison sentence of nine years. The police are still pursuing the other perpetrator who is on the wanted list and are tracing the possibility of additional victims.
