Man arrested for stabbing minibus driver in Cilincing, Jakarta
Jakarta – Police have apprehended RM (25), the perpetrator in the fatal stabbing of minibus driver AFN (26) in Cilincing, North Jakarta, on Thursday evening, 12 March 2026.
Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto, Head of Public Relations for Metro Jaya Police, stated that RM was arrested the following day, Friday, 13 March 2026, in the warehouse district of Cakung, East Jakarta. At the time of arrest, the suspect was hiding inside a container truck.
“The suspect was successfully apprehended on Friday at approximately 07.30 WIB in the Cakung area,” Budi told Kompas.com on Monday, 16 March 2026.
According to the account, RM had initially intended only to remonstrate with the victim. However, the quarrel between the two escalated, ultimately resulting in RM stabbing AFN.
“RM, who had prepared a sickle, recklessly slashed the victim,” Budi explained.
RM is currently detained at Metro Jaya Police Detention Centre. He has been charged under Article 458(1) of the Criminal Code concerning murder and Article 466(3) of the Criminal Code concerning assault resulting in death, each carrying a maximum prison sentence of 15 years.
The incident occurred in the Sukapura area of Cilincing, North Jakarta, when the minibus driver was stabbed. Video footage shared on Instagram account @wargajakarta.id documented the victim collapsed on the street and was attended to by nearby residents.
AFN was subsequently evacuated to the roadside by residents owing to ongoing traffic. Bobi Subasri, Head of Cilincing Police Precinct, confirmed that the incident was triggered by a quarrel between the victim and perpetrator.
“Essentially, the victim and perpetrator had a heated argument, whereupon the perpetrator immediately stabbed the victim,” Bobi told Kompas.com on Friday, 13 March 2026.
