Man arrested for selling dubious oil

TANGERANG: Tangerang Police arrested and questioned a man on Monday for selling what he claimed to be lubricant oil, but what turned out to be some other kind of substance, at his automobile workshop on Jl. Raya Peranci, Dadap village, Kosambi district, Tangerang regency.

The suspect, identified as Feriadi alias Ferry, 35, was caught by the police at his house in Duta Bandara Permai housing complex late on Sunday, following a complaint filed by Basuni, 37.

Basuni bought 542 cans of lubricant oil and claimed that none of the cans contained lubricant oil. He paid Rp 12 million (US$1,291.71) for the lubricant oil.

"Since the price was more than 20 percent less than the usual price, I decided to buy a large amount of lubricant oil," he said.

He found out that it was not genuine oil after opened a can for a customer. The contents were watery and smelly and the registration number was blurred. Basuni returned the lubricant oil to the suspect but he refused to take it back.

Tangerang Police detectives chief Adj. Comr. Asep Adi Saputra confirmed said that Ferry told the police that he had bought the lubricant oil from a salesman in Jakarta.

Ferry will be charged under Articles 378 and 256 of the Criminal Code on deception and forgery," Asep said. -- JP
