Man arrested for rape, murder

SAMARINDA, East Kalimantan: Police arrested on Saturday
Aripin, alias Ipin, who allegedly raped 10-year-old Widya Tanjung
Sari and then cut her body into five pieces, Antara reported.

The news agency quoted Samarinda police precinct chief Lt.
Col. Yayat Sudrajat as saying that the man was apprehended in
Banjarmasin, the capital of South Kalimantan.

Police have been interrogating Ipin who has allegedly
confessed to raping Widya, mutilating her and scattering her
remains in Mugirejo village in the Pelita subdistrict, North
Samarinda, and other places in Samarinda Ulu.

A scavenger found some of the remains last Monday and alerted
police.

Yayat said yesterday that experts at A. Wahab Sjahranie
Hospital were conducting a post mortem examination on the
victim's remains. (swe)
