The Cianjur District Prosecutor’s Office in West Java has detained a man suspected of committing fraud by misusing the name of the prosecution service. The alleged perpetrator reportedly claimed to be part of the Adhyaksa Corps to convince victims he could assist in processing land certificates.

The suspected fraud and impersonation case came to light after the ATR/BPN Land Office of Cianjur Regency reported that a party was acting on behalf of the Prosecutor’s Office. The individual allegedly offered to process land certificates related to cases that were still ongoing and lacked legal finality.

"Today we have detained a person who is strongly suspected of using our institution’s name at the BPN office regarding land certificate processing. He enticed business actors by promising he could issue certificates," said Angga Insana Husri, Head of the Intelligence Section at the Cianjur District Prosecutor’s Office, to reporters on Thursday.

Angga stated that, based on preliminary information, the suspect received Rp160 million from a victim. However, the victim’s family claims the amount handed over to the suspect was even larger. "There is not just one victim; it is suspected that there are other victims who are business actors. This suspect is believed to have frequently used our institution’s name to claim he could facilitate all kinds of administrative processes," he said.

Angga stressed that the Cianjur Prosecutor’s Office has never facilitated the processing of land certificates or other permits. He noted that the office respects the roles, main duties, and functions of each respective work unit. "From the search results, this perpetrator was found to be carrying various identity cards. He had a press card, belonged to a mass organisation, and was a company director. So there is a criminal intent from this perpetrator," Angga asserted.

According to Angga, the suspect’s actions are estimated to have been ongoing for quite some time. The suspect also allegedly possessed a prosecutor’s uniform, which is believed to have been used to carry out his schemes and intimidate victims. "It can be said that this perpetrator is essentially a broker," Angga revealed. Based on the existing facts and evidence, the Cianjur Prosecutor’s Office has handed the suspect over to the police for further legal processing.
