Man Arrested for Assaulting Elderly Man, Knocking Out Tooth in Depok Mosque
An elderly man with the initials MS (74) was assaulted, resulting in a dislodged tooth, at a mosque in the Sukmajaya area of Depok City, West Java. The suspected assailant, identified by the initials IM, has been arrested by officers.
“The suspected perpetrator has been detained,” said AKP Hendra, Head of Public Relations for the Depok Metro Police, on Monday (13/7/2026).
IM is currently undergoing intensive questioning by members of the Sukmajaya Police. The victim, MS, has also filed a police report regarding the assault he experienced.
“Yesterday, right after the incident, the victim filed a report, and the Sukmajaya Police have already examined witnesses,” he said.
The case has been upgraded to the investigation stage, and the case file is still being completed before being handed over to the public prosecutor. The alleged assault occurred at the Nurul Amal Mosque, located in the Pelni Complex on Jalan Gama Setia Barat 1, RT 04 RW 19, Bhaktijaya Village, Sukmajaya, Depok City, at 5.30 a.m. Western Indonesia Time.
The case began when the perpetrator and the victim were at the same mosque. The assault occurred because the two parties had a prior dispute.
“The victim was approached by the reported individual, with whom he had previously had a problem,” said AKP Hendra on Friday (10/7).
The suspect told the victim that he was offended by the victim’s previous remarks. The suspect then challenged the victim’s child to a fight.
“(The reported individual) told the victim that he could not accept being told he was ‘only brave against an old man’. The reported individual then told the victim to call his child to fight him,” Hendra revealed.
The suspect then headbutted the victim, striking him in the face. As a result of this violent act, the victim’s tooth was dislodged.
“The reported individual charged and headbutted the victim in the face, causing the victim’s upper tooth to come loose. As a result of the incident, the victim suffered bruises on his lip,” he explained.
