Man Arrested After Beating Victim Unconscious on Karangasem Roadside

A man with the initials IMS has been arrested by police for allegedly striking another man with a wooden beam, leaving him collapsed on the pavement of Jalan Raya Susuan in Karangasem, Bali. Footage of the victim lying by the roadside had previously gone viral on social media.

“The suspect, with the initials IMS, has now been secured at the police station to undergo further legal proceedings,” said Karangasem Police Chief Commissioner I Nyoman Merta Kariana on Sunday (6/9/2026).

Prior to the incident, IMS and the victim, identified by the initials IGP, had been drinking alcohol with friends near a cockfighting venue in the Susuan area of Karangasem. According to Kariana, the victim had also been involved in an argument with a friend of IMS.

IMS then told the victim to leave. Shortly afterwards, the victim returned to the location with several other people, shouting as if issuing a challenge.

Upon seeing this, the suspect approached the victim carrying a wooden beam approximately 1.5 metres long. It was at that point that IMS struck IGP in the face, causing him to collapse unconscious on the pavement.

“The suspect was then restrained by several of his friends and left the scene. Meanwhile, the victim was immediately rushed to Karangasem Regional General Hospital for medical treatment,” Kariana added.

Kariana explained that police immediately launched an investigation and processed the crime scene after receiving a report regarding the alleged assault. Shortly afterwards, officers succeeded in apprehending the suspect.
