Man Alleges Police Assault During Brawl Case Interrogation at Belu Station

Andreas Ridwan Mali (22) claims he was assaulted by police while being questioned as a witness in a dispute case at Belu Police Station in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on Thursday, 28 May 2026.

A 30-second viral video shows Andreas, wearing a white shirt, touching his swollen and bruised right temple. He is heard saying, “Oe, this is a brawl,” while inside a police room.

When police asked about his parents’ whereabouts, Andreas replied they were selling goods. “Where are your parents?” the officer asked. “My parents are selling, sir. I’m not rich, but why was I hit like this?” he responded.

As he left the room, Andreas shouted, “I have bleeding eyes, officer, why?” in an emotional tone.

The case began when two officers, Rolan Jawa and Riki Bianco, brought Andreas to Belu Police Station for questioning regarding a dispute between his friend and a woman in Lalosuk Village, Manleten Subdistrict, Belu Regency.

Upon arrival, the officers allegedly choked him and punched him in the parking lot after he tried to resist. Assistant Commissioner Rachmat Hidayat, head of the Criminal Investigation Department at Belu Police Station, confirmed the assault, stating the officers were provoked by Andreas’ comments. “Yes, based on the viral videos, the victim was indeed punched by two officers during the incident at Belu Police Station,” Hidayat told detikBali on Saturday.

He added that the case originated from a public complaint via the 110 hotline about a drunk individual in Lalosuk Village. Following up on the report, officers including Jawa and Bianco responded and took the individuals to the station.

“After securing the suspects, the victim made provocative remarks. Perhaps due to the officers’ emotions, the assault occurred,” Hidayat explained.

Hidayat stated Andreas immediately reported the incident to the police, and they have since interviewed him and a witness. “We will follow up tomorrow. A case conference may be released by the Police Chief,” he concluded.
