Man Accused of Mutilating Girlfriend Placed in Solitary Confinement Prison Cell, Prison Chief Explains Reasons
Alvi Maulana (24), the accused perpetrator of the murder and sadistic dismemberment of his girlfriend, Tiara Angelina Saraswati (25), has been placed in solitary confinement at Mojokerto Class IIB Prison. Officials have taken this precautionary measure to prevent unwanted incidents.
According to detikJatim, on Wednesday (12 March 2026), Alvi was detained by investigators from Mojokerto Police Criminal Investigation Unit since 7 September 2025. The young man from Aek Paing Village, Rantau Utara, Labuhanbatu, North Sumatra, was held at Mojokerto Police Detention Centre until 9 December 2025.
Following the transfer of case files and evidence to the Mojokerto District State Prosecutor’s Office on 10 December 2025, Alvi became a prosecutorial detainee. He was subsequently remanded in custody at Mojokerto Class IIB Prison.
“We have isolated him in a single cell—one room per detainee—to prevent unwanted situations. Cases like repeated dismemberment are something we always anticipate,” said Rudi Kristiawan, Head of Mojokerto Class IIB Prison, in an interview with detikJatim on Wednesday (11 March).
Alvi’s solitary cell measures approximately 2 by 1.5 metres and includes a bathroom, mattress, and small corridor. He lives alone in the cell.
To date, Alvi has spent approximately three months in solitary confinement. During his imprisonment, Alvi is not permitted to leave the isolation cell except to attend court hearings, receive medical treatment, or perform Friday prayers.
“To prevent him from mixing with large numbers of people. We understand the nature of his crime—a particularly disturbing case of dismemberment. We do not want such an incident to be repeated here. He has a personality and mental disposition different from other people,” Kristiawan explained.
Rudi noted that other inmates are anxious about the presence of the accused dismemberer.
“Given the nature of his case, other inmates would certainly be terrified of being placed in a cell with him. So we have taken preventive measures to ensure his crimes do not recur. Even with his girlfriend—the person he loved—he did something like this,” he stated.
Rudi explained that Alvi will remain in solitary confinement at least until his case concludes. During his detention, Alvi is reported to have been cooperative.
“Whether when his case concludes, whatever the verdict turns out to be, however severe the sentence, we will adjust our management accordingly. If, for example, he receives a 20-year prison sentence or life imprisonment, we will transfer him to a prison facility higher in classification than Mojokerto Prison, so that the management will match the severity of his sentence,” he said.
As background, the trial in this murder and dismemberment case continues at Mojokerto District Court. Alvi is scheduled to attend a sentencing hearing on 30 March 2026.
It is known that Alvi Maulana murdered and dismembered his girlfriend into hundreds of pieces on Sunday, 31 August 2025. The brutal incident occurred at his rented room in Lidah Wetan Village, Lakarsantri District, Surabaya.
The case was uncovered after several body parts of the victim were discovered in bushland in South Pacet Hamlet, Pacet Village/District, Mojokerto by local residents. Following a series of investigations, police arrested Alvi Maulana at his rented room on Sunday, 7 September 2025.
