Various figures disclosed discussions during a gathering of President Prabowo Subianto with ulama and leaders of Islamic organizations at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta. The discussions covered current geopolitical situations, Indonesia’s presence in the Board of Peace (BoP), and Indonesia’s economic and social conditions.

The gathering, which lasted three hours, was held in the central courtyard of the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Thursday evening, 5 March 2026. Some 158 leaders of Islamic organisations nationwide and the heads or leaders of pesantren attended the event.

Preacher Dedeh Rosidah, known as Mamah Dedeh, said Prabowo spoke a lot about the increasingly tense global situation, particularly in the Middle East.

“The President was still talking about the current conditions abroad where there is fighting; that was what he said,” Mamah Dedeh said after the event.

Meanwhile, the leader of Ponpes Ora Aji in Yogyakarta, Miftah Maulana Habiburrohman, or Gus Miftah, said Prabowo explained Indonesia’s stance in the Board of Peace (BoP). Prabowo, according to Gus Miftah, said Indonesia’s membership in BoP is not a “fait accompli” and can leave at any time.

“There are eight Muslim countries, the largest of them in Indonesia, that have committed to joining BoP. But again the President emphasised that this is not a done deal. In other words, if it does not align with the initial agreement, Indonesia is ready to withdraw from BoP itself. When that will be, this has not been disclosed,” he said.

Gus Miftah said Prabowo hopes that the leaders of Islamic organizations and pesantren will extend their message to congregants, students (santri), and the public.

“Because these are religious figures, chairpersons of organisations and the kyai-kyai, the President hopes that the information the kyai have received can be conveyed to the congregation, to their students, and to the public. Roughly, that’s the President’s message,” he said.

In the same occasion, the leader of Ponpes Lirboyo, Kafabihi Ali Mahrus or Kiai Kafa, said Prabowo discussed the hot global situation a lot. Prabowo, he said, emphasised Indonesia’s commitment to contributing to world peace.

“And he stressed the importance of peace in the world. War is dangerous, so what he said was quite good,” Kiai Kafa said.
