Maluku Utara Government and Harita Nickel Partner on Vocational Training and Local Employment

The Maluku Utara Provincial Government and Harita Nickel have signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen job training and the placement of local workers. This collaboration is intended to improve the competence of the younger generation so they are better prepared to enter the industrial sector. The agreement was signed by Maluku Utara Governor Sherly Tjoanda Laos and Harita Nickel Executive Vice President of External Relations Latif Supriadi on the sidelines of a job fair organised by the Maluku Utara Manpower and Transmigration Office at the Marahai Hotel Ballroom in Tobelo, North Halmahera Regency. Governor Sherly stated that collaboration between local government and the business sector is a crucial step towards expanding job opportunities for the people of Maluku Utara. According to her, continuous training can help improve the quality of local human resources to meet industrial needs. “Thank you to Harita Nickel for consistently providing job training for the people of Maluku Utara year after year,” said Sherly on Thursday (11/6/2026). On the occasion, Sherly, together with Maluku Utara Deputy Governor Sarbin Sehe, Head of the Maluku Utara Manpower and Transmigration Office Marwan Polisiri, and North Halmahera Regent Piet Hein Babua, reviewed the job fair. At the event, Harita Nickel opened 416 job vacancies for various positions, including drivers, heavy equipment operators, mechanics, and several other operational roles. In addition to opening job opportunities, Harita Nickel is also running a youth skills improvement programme in collaboration with the Ternate Vocational and Productivity Training Centre. The programme, which has been running since 2023, provides training in operating heavy equipment, overhead cranes, and also the Mandarin language. Latif Supriadi stated that developing the quality of human resources is one of the company’s focuses in supporting regional development. According to him, increasing the capacity of local workers is important so that the community can gain greater benefits from industrial growth in Maluku Utara. “Our success as a company is also highly dependent on how we can grow together with the communities around us. When the young people of Maluku Utara develop and have a better future, that is also a source of pride for us,” said Latif. Head of the Maluku Utara Manpower and Transmigration Office Marwan Polisiri assessed that the cooperation could strengthen the connection between industry needs and local workforce development. He hopes more young people in Maluku Utara will have the opportunity to increase their competence and enter the formal workforce. “My hope is that this collaboration can help local government train more young people in Maluku Utara, so that they transform into highly competitive and competent workers in their fields,” said Marwan.
