Maluku to send apprentices to Japan

AMBON, Maluku: A number of vocational and technical school graduates in Maluku will be selected by the Maluku manpower and transmigration office for apprenticeship programs in various companies in Japan.

About 150 candidates are expected to register for administrative selections. They will be screened by a team from the ministry at the end of March, said deputy head of the office, Merry Maail, in Ambon on Friday.

Merry did not explain how many graduates would be chosen for internships in Japan.

She said it was a golden opportunity for the graduates to learn professional practices in Japan that they could adopt in once they returned home.

"The graduates should work well and learn superior practices in Japan. They should become self-employed and recruit workers, so that they can help reduce unemployment in Maluku," she said. Japanese-owned companies in Maluku could also hire them based on recommendations from their headquarters in Japan.

They would be prioritized to serve apprenticeships in companies operating in the fishery sector.
