Maluku Provincial Government Projects MILH to Strengthen Connectivity and Grow Economy

The Maluku Provincial Government is projecting the development of the Maluku Integrated Logistic Hub (MILH) as a strategic node to strengthen inter-island connectivity while reducing logistics costs and encouraging economic growth in the region.

Maluku Governor Hendrik Lewerissa said in Ambon on Thursday that MILH is not only being built as a port where ships call, but is designed as an integrated logistics and industrial zone with the port as its core infrastructure.

“This is not merely a port, but the surrounding economic zone will also develop,” Hendrik said.

According to him, the concept is expected to create new economic activity, improve supply chain efficiency, and strengthen inter-island logistics connectivity in Maluku.

Hendrik estimates that the development of the economic and industrial zone around MILH could absorb around 5,000 to 6,000 new workers.

He said the presence of MILH together with the development of the Masela Block could become an important momentum for Maluku’s economic transformation because both have the potential to become the main drivers of economic activity in the region.

“For the Maluku Provincial Government, the Maluku Integrated Logistic Hub is a kind of prime economic mover, just like the Masela Block,” he said.
