Maluku Provincial Government Maximises PP Tunas to Protect Children in the Digital Space

Ambon (ANTARA) - The Maluku Provincial Government is optimising the implementation of Government Regulation (PP) Number 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Administration in Child Protection (PP Tunas) to shield children from negative risks in the digital space.

Maluku Vice Governor Abdullah Vanath in Ambon, on Wednesday, said child protection in the digital era has become a serious concern for the government in line with rising use of social media and digital platforms among the younger generation.

‘As we enter 2026, the nation’s challenges have shifted from territorial sovereignty to information sovereignty and digital transformation,’ he said at the 118th National Awakening Day (Harkitnas) ceremony in Ambon.

He said that this year’s Harkitnas theme, ‘Guard the Nation’s Youth for the Sovereignty of the State’, emphasises the importance of safeguarding the younger generation as the foundation of the nation’s future while strengthening national resilience amid digital technology development.

According to him, the government continues to strengthen child protection policies through the implementation of PP Tunas which regulates the governance of electronic systems to create a healthy and safe digital space for children.

‘As of 28 March 2026, the government will officially suspend access for children under 16 to social media and other high-risk digital platforms,’ he said.

In relation to this, he called on parents in Maluku to be more active in supervising their children’s activities when using digital devices and accessing social media as part of the PP Tunas implementation.

He said family supervision is the key to protecting children from exposure to negative content, cyberbullying, and potential personal data misuse in the digital space.

He also urged parents to limit gadget use according to the child’s age, foster open communication, and enhance family digital literacy so that children can utilise technology in a healthy, safe, and productive manner.
