Ambon — The Maluku Regional Police (Polda) have partnered with the Amboina Diocese to strengthen coordination in maintaining public security and order (kamtibmas) ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah.

“In the coming weeks, the community will face several significant religious occasions, such as Eid al-Fitr, Nyepi, and Easter, making it necessary for all parties to work together to ensure the situation remains conducive,” said Maluku Police Chief Inspector General Dadang Hartanto during an audience in Ambon on Tuesday.

The partnership was discussed during a meeting between Maluku Police Chief Dadang Hartanto and representatives of the Amboina Diocese in Ambon. The meeting focused on strengthening the role of religious leaders in maintaining security and religious harmony within the community.

During the meeting, the Police Chief expressed appreciation for the long-standing positive relations between the police and religious leaders in Maluku. He emphasised that this collaboration is crucial in maintaining unity in a region characterised by high religious diversity.

“Religious leaders play a strategic role in conveying messages of peace to the community, including through spiritual guidance and engagement in places of worship,” he stated.

Additionally, the development and guidance of young people received particular attention to prevent them from being susceptible to provocation and the negative effects of technological and social media developments.

The Police Chief reaffirmed the commitment of Maluku Police to continuously improve professional service delivery to the community, including through transparent recruitment systems and technology-based supervision.

Meanwhile, Rd. Lucky Kelwula, a representative of the Amboina Diocese, expressed full support for the police’s efforts to maintain public security and order.

“Cooperation between the church and security officials must continue to be strengthened, not only in maintaining security, but also through social activities and community development,” he said.

During the audience, both parties also discussed several social issues of mutual concern, including the protection of women and children, environmental care, and the negative effects of online gambling.

This cooperation between the police and religious leaders is expected to further strengthen social harmony and maintain a safe and conducive public security environment in Maluku, particularly ahead of the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
