Maluku Police Chief Visits Teenager Allegedly Assaulted by Brimob Officer in Tual
Maluku Police Chief Inspector General Dadang Hartanto visited one of the victims of an assault allegedly carried out by a Maluku Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) officer, First Class Private MS, in Tual, Maluku. The victim visited by Insp. Gen. Dadang was NK (15), the elder sibling of a madrasah student identified as AT (14), who died after the assault.
“I came in person as an expression of empathy and moral responsibility, and to affirm that the state does not turn a blind eye to violations of the law, particularly when committed by law enforcement officers,” Insp. Gen. Dadang said on Tuesday (24/2/2026).
Insp. Gen. Dadang visited NK, who is being treated at the Level II Prof JA Latumeten Hospital in Ambon, on Monday afternoon (23/2). He also spoke with the victim’s parents and ensured the victim was receiving proper care.
“I reviewed the victim’s medical condition, spoke with the medical team, and ensured that all treatment needs are being optimally met,” he said.
Dadang also personally conveyed an apology to the victim’s family. He stressed that his presence was a matter of moral responsibility.
“I am here not merely as the head of the institution, but as a matter of moral responsibility. On behalf of myself personally and the Indonesian National Police as an institution, I extend my sincerest apologies. We are deeply grieved by this incident,” he said.
On this occasion, Dadang also stressed that the incident would serve as a serious evaluation for the Maluku Police Command. He vowed to ensure such an incident would not be repeated.
NK was also a victim of the assault carried out by First Class Private MS, alongside the younger sibling AT. NK sustained bone fractures and is currently receiving intensive treatment in hospital.
