Maluku Police Chief Iptu La Ode Tests Positive for Drugs, Faces Dismissal
A member of the Ambon Island and Lease Islands Police Resort, First Inspector La Ode Muhammad Yusdiman, who serves as the Leihitu Police Chief in Central Maluku, has tested positive for drugs.
This was determined based on the results of a urine examination on Tuesday, 11 August 2026.
The Head of Public Relations of the Maluku Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Rositah Umasugi, said that according to the certificate of urine examination results dated 11 August 2026, the examination of First Inspector La Ode was declared positive for containing methamphetamine and amphetamine.
The examination was carried out using a drug reagent kit and was reinforced by the statement of the Maluku Regional Police Medical and Health Division officers who conducted the examination.
The Head of Internal Affairs of the Maluku Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Jarot Sungkowo, emphasised that the finding was immediately followed up through legal mechanisms and internal regulations of the Indonesian National Police.
After the urine examination results were known, the Maluku Regional Police Internal Affairs Division held a case review on Tuesday evening. The case review involved elements from the Regional Inspectorate, Human Resources and Legal Division of the Maluku Regional Police and was led by the Acting Head of the Sub-Division for Profession and Security Development of the Maluku Regional Police Internal Affairs Division.
From the results of the case review, it was recommended that the case be elevated to the examination stage of the Indonesian National Police Professional Code of Ethics.
“The person concerned is also recommended to be placed in special detention for 20 days starting from 11 to 30 August, because the case is categorised as a serious violation,” said Jarot.
According to Jarot, this step is a form of the Maluku Regional Police’s seriousness in enforcing discipline and the code of ethics. He stressed that there is no tolerance for narcotics abuse by members of the Indonesian National Police.
“The entire process is still carried out based on the examination mechanism and applicable legal provisions,” he said.
In addition to the code of ethics violation process, the Maluku Regional Police Internal Affairs Division has also coordinated with the Maluku Regional Police Narcotics Investigation Directorate to follow up on the criminal aspects of the finding.
This step was taken to ensure that the alleged narcotics abuse by a member of the Indonesian National Police does not stop at the internal process, but is also handled in accordance with criminal law provisions if the elements are met.
Jarot stressed that internal supervision is part of efforts to maintain the integrity of the institution while ensuring that members of the Indonesian National Police do not abuse their authority or position.
“Internal supervision will continue to be carried out on an ongoing basis. Discipline enforcement and urine examinations are not merely inspection activities, but instruments to ensure that Indonesian National Police personnel remain within the corridor of discipline, ethics and law,” he said.
