Maluku needs more teachers

AMBON, Maluku: The 2,605 elementary schools here are in need
of over 8,900 elementary teachers, spokesman for the local office
of the Ministry of Education said here yesterday.

A.H. Tuaritta told Antara yesterday that the teachers needed
included some 6,300 homeroom teachers, and 1,200 religious
teachers. The remaining teachers are needed in physical
education.

The province also needs 1,500 more school watchmen, he said.

Ambon now has 16,860 teachers, 11,565 school teachers, 1,595
religious teachers, 1,095 sport teachers and 2,605 school
headmasters.

Central Maluku needs 1,024 class teachers, 323 religious
teachers and 512 sport teachers, while Southeast Maluku needs
1,559 class teachers, 268 religious teachers and 481 sports
teachers.

North Maluku needs 3,172 homeroom teachers, 472 religious
teachers and 418 sports teachers. Central Halmahera needs 576
class teachers, 97 religious teachers and 94 sports teachers
while the Ambon municipality itself only needs five PE
instructors. (31)
