Maluku Natural Resources Conservation Agency Releases Two Sulphur-Crested Cockatoos into Karangguli Customary Forest

The Maluku Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA), through the Dobo Resort, has released two sulphur-crested cockatoos (Cacatua galerita) into the Karangguli Customary Forest, located in the Aru Islands Regency.

“After undergoing an observation process and being declared in healthy condition, both sulphur-crested cockatoos have been returned to their natural habitat in the Karangguli Customary Forest,” stated Lebrina Serpara, Head of BKSDA Regional Section III Saumlaki, in a press release received in Ambon on Saturday.

The release was conducted in collaboration with the Regional Technical Service Unit (UPTD) for the Aru Islands Forest Management Unit (KPH) and the Head of the Karangguli Village Youth, as part of an ongoing effort to conserve protected wildlife in its natural habitat.

She noted that the two birds were rescued animals that had previously undergone an observation period at the Dobo Wildlife Conservation Station. She expressed hope that community involvement in conservation activities would continue to be strengthened to ensure that protected wildlife populations remain preserved in their habitats.

“This activity is a manifestation of the synergy between the government and the community in supporting conservation efforts and maintaining the biodiversity of Maluku,” she added.
